A number of countries have kinship care organisations that provide support and advocacy for kinship carers. Their websites (click on the logos) provide much information about developments. Long years of advocacy by Grandparents Raising Grandchildren New Zealand led to a national Unsupported Child’s Benefit pegged at the rate of the national foster care allowance. Kinship (England & Wales) is currently campaigning for a national kinship care allowance. Ireland has a non-means tested Guardian’s Payment of €227 per week per child (2025 rate) for informal kinship carers where one parent has died and the other parent is unavailable.
